How Words Effect The Human Mind
This is a strange topic to be writing when talking about website design although in a minute you’ll see how relevant it really is.
Here’s a crash course in how our mind represents information.
Our mind has parts that look after our 5 senses: visual, touch, hearing, taste and smell. These are how we connect with the world around us, our “information gathering interface”.
When we come into contact with “stuff” around us it is processed by the parts of our mind that look after those senses and when we remember things we use those same parts of our brain to re-experience the world in an imaginary way.
When we remember things from our past we generally see pictures, hear sounds and feel feelings, the most vivid way that we expeience this is when we dream.
Even though some people are not aware of these holographic “RE”-presentations as they think, it IS still happening.
Here’s some quick bullet points to explain how this is important to the design of your website.
1. When we represent things we see, hear and feel the things that are important to us, for example: When buying a car our focus will be on certain parts of the car according to what has the highest importance or VALUE to us, it may be the fuel economy or the colour of the car, etc.
2. The size of the representation in our mind: Generally the more important something is to us, the larger the image is in our imagination. The images can be larger or smaller than life.
3. The position of the image in time: When we are choosing something to buy the filters we use to make judgement and decisions are based in the past, present or future. This is important because people all make decisions around things they do and don’t want and that could have been due to negative or positive experiences they have had in the past or want in the present or the future.
Doing your research about your target market is important.
Before I go on, I just want to say that when you write the content for your website it is good to focus on the values and needs of people who have BAUGHT from you in the past.
When I build websites I don’t just ask you what colour you’d like it, sometimes I like to speak with some of your past paying clients to find out what was important to them. This means after I have built your website you’ll get the best results.
I have content writing systems that are available to all my clients so when you are writing the content for your clients you can do it in a way that SYNCHRONISES with the images in your clients minds.
This is how you can overcome objections in sales before your client raises them. Because you’re using this system it means you can capture the attention of your clients with your headlines, gain their trust and build deep rapport before your even meet them.
Using my system will mean your customers feel like you know and understand them. Your sales process just got 10x easier!
Gaining rapport and trust of your potential clients is the difference you need to have the advantage over your competition.
