Writing Your Website So People Stop Walking!

I was speaking with a Breakfast cereal box designer and he said that when people are shopping, they look at a cereal box for about 4 seconds to see if it looks appealing or not!

If you remember back to when you buy cereal you can imagine yourself standing and glancing over the wall of bright boxes to find the one you want.

As mention in my post How to compel people to read your website then inspire them to contact you”, a good magazine or newspaper will stop a person and compel them to pick it up and read it, once a person invests time and interest in something they are more likely to buy.

  • Once a person looks at a cereal box for longer than 4 seconds they are more likely to pick it up to read the back.
  • Once a person has physically touched the cereal box they are 3x more likely to buy!

 

Here’s 3 Steps You Want Your Website Visitors To Do

1. See the headline and stop to read the content. People don’t read headlines they SEE them. We are in a different mental state when we are searching for something and actually have to switch to a different part of our brain to engage in reading. To make people STOP you need a good headline, which is why I have made an automatic headline writing system based on psychology and examples of the best headlines from the past 10 years that you can take and use.

2. Your opening paragraph must generate SUPER emotion. As much as people like to say “oh well I make logical decisions” …they don’t, it is the way our mind is wired. Our logical mind and emotional mind are always communicating to make judgements and decisions. When people spend money it is a VERY emotional decision so you want to of course make the person FEEL GOOD. 3. Removing resistance: People often have many objections when they are buying and you need to know what those objections are. You need to know the FEARS and PAIN of your target market and write about them on your website. Once you have written about their fears then you can provide the solution to their fear and pain.

After you have built rapport with your target market by showing them that you understand their needs and desires, you can introduce a CALL TO ACTION. You want your website visitors to DO SOMETHING when they are on your website. The thing you want them to do is make contact or if you have an ecommerce website you want them to BUY.

In business emotion is something that many people pretend to leave at home but, it is always with us driving our decisions based from the conditioning and knowledge of our life experiences.
